FRANCIS RAY

NOT EVEN IF YOU BEGGED

Widow Traci Evans happily sits in on meetings with the lovely ladies of the Invincible Sisterhood solely because they reached out to her first.  A loner, Traci feels for the first time she belongs. All of the official members are sweet older women who have lost the love of their lives, their husbands. Unknown to them, Traci is more angry than she is grief-stricken because her husband died in the midst of cheating on her with another woman.

Her husband’s deception has hardened Traci’s heart so much that even close friend and next door neighbor Maureen can't convince her to open it again. But when a playful kiss with Maureen's gorgeous son Ryan turns passionate, Traci starts to rethink everything she knows about love.

Author Q&A

1.  What do you like to do in your free time?
Readers familiar with my books will probably have guessed that I love flowers.  In my free time, what little I have, you'll probably find me reading a book or working in my flower garden.  This year I expanded my flower beds and put in new ones. As a matter of fact, I have two flats of white and pink begonias waiting for me to plant.  I'm proud to say that in June we received Yard of The Month from our home-owners association.

2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
I like listening to country music, and it's not just because I'm from Texas.  The lyrics of country music often tell of love-gone-bad, but they also tell of love that lasts a lifetime.  The lyrics mirror the lives of the leading characters in my books who were 'done wrong', but through courage, determination and of course, love, they eventually find their happily-ever-after.

3.  What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
I'm not much of a movie person.  However, if I had to select one it would probably be Independence Day starring Will Smith.  I liked the movie because Will Smith showed intelligence, loyalty, and integrity. His character helped saved the world and he got the woman he loved...just like in a romance novel.

4.  What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
I enjoy the writing of many writers and it's difficult to name just one all time favorite. A wonderful writer is J. California Cooper.  She has a unique way of depicting characters that touch our emotions.

5.  What do you like best about being a writer?
What I like most about being a writer is the ability to create my own universe where good guys triumph and bad guys are always punished.  It is also gratifying to show African-Americans as morally upright, productive, and responsible citizens.

Reading Group Guide Questions For Not Even if You Begged

1. Has anyone ever asked you out and you thought, “not even if you begged”? Did you remain firm or did you later go out with the person? What happened?

2. Traci let her deceased husband influence her attitude about men. How do you get over a bad relationship and open your heart to love again?

3. Maureen wanted the deep bond of love again, but thought she was too old for Simon. Can you be “too old” to want love and companionship? Why or why not?

4. Simon was ten years younger than Maureen. Should age matter in a relationship? Does it matter if the man or woman is younger/older?

5. Traci was confident about her full figure until a teasing word caused her to doubt herself. Why is that a man can make a woman second-guess herself?

6. Maureen and Traci had an argument that almost cost them their friendship when Maureen said things that Traci told her in confidence. Has a friend ever betrayed you? Answer this silently. Did you lose your friend?

7. Ryan didn’t take his mother dating very well. Why is that males are often overprotective of their mothers? Are they being selfish or are they just concerned?

Reading Group Guide Questions For Any Rich Man Will Do

1. Jana disrupted a number of relationships with her wanton behavior. Was it entirely her fault for luring the men away or should the men share the blame equally?

2. If you had proof positive that the man you loved cheated with another man/woman, could you forgive and forget? Would you give him another chance or pack your bags? How difficult would it be to trust him again?

3. A woman’s sexual history is judged more harshly than a man’s. Why is this and do you think it’s fair?

4. Many men have loved women despite their dubious sexual pasts. Would you feel threatened if such a woman was around your significant other a great deal? If so, how would you handle those feelings?

5. Jana started on the difficult road to redemption when she hit rock bottom and finally saw what her self-centered life had cost her. However, there were those who weren’t ready to forgive or forget her past. Could you have been as forgiving as Tyler and Olivia?

6. If the unthinkable happened and a woman somehow persuaded your man to stray, and years later you met the now-reformed woman, could you forgive her or would she need a hair transplant?
