Lisa Johnson appears to have it all. She is smart, attractive, has a successful career and could have any man she wants. Life is good for her, right? Wrong! Lisa consistently chooses men who bring heartache and drama to a relationship because of their exceptional good looks and ability to deceive women. Lisa’s personal life undergoes an unexpected change when she meets the man of her dreams, who turns her entire world upside down. Book Reviews As most women over thirty would agree, a good Black man is hard to find, and Lisa Johnson has had her share of losers. A successful marketing executive, she has a young daughter to support, but she is tired of life without a soul mate. When she meets handsome, charismatic comedian, Kenneth Maxwell, he is exactly what she wants in a man. Kenneth is equally taken with Lisa and is willing to commit to being in a relationship with her - with one small twist. Kenneth's career is red-hot and taking off. As part of his act, he often speaks about a polyamory relationship - where a man is equally committed to two women and all parties are aware and accepting. Although this is part of his act, he is trying to make this a reality. He already has Cassandra Russell sold on the idea; he just needs another beautiful, successful and smart woman to complete the triad. Is Lisa the one? Will their relationship work, or is he just seeking to fulfill a fantasy? Stacey L. Ford's debut novel, SELLING THE FANTASY, is a strong first offering. Her prose is marvelously provocative with solid, well-developed characters. The story line's concept is unique and refreshing. Although at times, my reading experience was exasperated by repetitive information and the plot did not really begin to flow until I was halfway through the book. The ending leaves room for a sequel and it will be great to visit these characters in a future release. Reviewed by Paula Henderson of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers Book Review
Selling the Fantasy is a sexy, thought-provoking debut by Stacey L. Ford. Ford eloquently introduces readers into the unique and interesting world of polyamory relationships. The character development in this story was excellent. You feel the emotional turmoil that both Lisa and Cassandra go through in order to make this “poly” relationship work for all of them. You also will see the uncertainty in Kenneth as he enters this situation. There are just enough erotic elements incorporated into this story to satisfy the reader without it being over-the-top. Ford also incorporates an interesting twist that will catch the readers by surprise. Selling the Fantasy is insightful, steamy, and full of drama. Stacey L. Ford has a definite winner on her hands. About the Author
“Black people are testing out so many different lifestyles five or ten years ago would have been considered taboo, such as bisexuality, swinging and polyamory. The idea of two women sharing one man, unfortunately, is not a new concept, but with poly relationships at least women can make the conscious decision if they want to participate, rather than finding out about the other woman across town,” she says. Selling the Fantasy allows readers to peer into the life of a typical, single, Black woman and the tough decisions she must make if she wants to have the man of her dreams. It also compels women to contemplate the question, “Could I live this lifestyle if done correctly?” Stacey describes the novel as a compelling mixture of humor, romance, erotica and betrayal.
