BRENDA JACKSON

HER LITTLE BLACK BOOK

Book Description
It's less than a week before Sonya Morrison's wedding when she decides to pass her legendary little black book on to her cousin Courtney Andrews along with all of her best wishes. Courtney, who's fast approaching thirty, thinks every woman she knows has somehow met a man who is husband material except for her. So Sonya’s little black book seems to be just what she needs. That's until Courtney discovers she and her cousins have completely different tastes when it comes to men.

But just when she is about to give up and toss the infamous little black book into the garbage, when she meets Lake Masters. Eight years her senior, he’s a lot older than the men she’s normally attracted to, but he’s handsome, intelligent, wealthy, and a man who is determined to sweep her off her feet. But the road to love is never easy and Courtney may find that her little black book is more a curse than a blessing.

About the Author

Just to share a little information about me, I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. I am a proud graduate of William M. Raines High School, and I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Jacksonville University.

I got married thirty-five years ago to my high school sweetheart, Gerald, and we have two sons, Gerald Jr. and Brandon, ages twenty-nine and twenty-six, respectively. I still proudly wear the going-steady ring Gerald gave me at fourteen. And although some may find it hard to believe with the number of books I write each year, I do have a full time job. I work in management for a major insurance company and have worked there for thirty-five years. The reason I can do both is because I don't consider writing love stories as work. That is my fun time, my stress-reliever time, so when I get in from work, I relax by writing love stories.

I am a member of the First Coast Chapter of Romance Writers of America. I began my writing career in the eighth grade at Northwestern Junior High School, when I would hand- write my stories for fellow classmates to read. I'm proud to say some of those same classmates are still Brenda Jackson readers today!!

My professional writing career began in 1994 when I signed on with Kensington Arabesque. My first book, Tonight and Forever, became a huge success, introducing the Madaris Family. Since then I have introduced the Bennetts, the Westmorelands, the Savoys, and the Steeles. A listing of my books can be found on this website. And because I love writing connecting stories, I have a listing of how my books connect in my various family saga series.

Over the years I have received numerous awards and made many trail-blazing accomplishments by being the first African-American author to have a book published under the Harlequin/Silhouette Desire line of books and the first African-American romance author to make USA Today's Bestseller's List.

I have written for the following publishers: St. Martins Press, BET, Kensington, NAL, Harlequin/Silhouette and Harlequin Kimani Romance.

Author Q&A

1. What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I love writing.  I still work full time so pleasure time for me is weaving together those love stories that make your heart go pitter-pat and always end with a happy ending.

2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
I love Old School.  Give me some Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, any Motown Sound, Sam and Dave, Chi-Lites and I am happy.  And those songs are the basis for a lot of my books.  I write while listening to that music. To me, that’s when the words to a song meant something and you knew exactly what was being said and what it meant.  They were true love songs.

3. What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
Mahogany with Diana Ross and Billie D. Williams.   I also loved Robin Hood, Prince of Theives with Kevin Costner.  Both were great love stories.   Also, there was a movie that came out many years ago about a teenage girl falling in love with an older rock star who taught her to play the guitar.  The movie was called Sooner or Later.  That is my all time favorite.

4. What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
Shanna, The Flame and The Flower, both by Kathleen Woodiwiss.   There was a time I would re-read Shanna at least one a year.  That book to me is the greatest love story that ever made print.   The Flame and The Flower is when I actually fell in love with a hero to the point where I named one of my sons after him.   My son Brandon was named after Brandon Birmingham in The Flame and The Flower.

5. What do you like best about being a writer?
Sharing my love stories with others.   I love romance.  I love happy endings.  When you put the two together in a story to share with others, to me that is the ultimate.  And I always get a kick when I walk into a bookstore and see my name on the cover of a book.
