About the Author

HOME BASE: Atlanta, GA
PROFESSION: Chef
DOING RIGHT: When the southern-born chef isn't stirring up Cajun shrimp and dreamy Key Lime pie on his show, Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin (TV One), he's working with his own mentoring program. About a dozen of Garvin's cooking colleagues, as well as hotel and restaurants execs, spend part of the summer teaching 12-to-18-year-olds about careers in hospitality. He's also passionate about Jenesse Center, which works to help women escape domestic abuse. "I know what that does to a family," he says.
WHY HE LOVES BLACK WOMEN: "No one is deeper, more complex and multifaceted than a Black woman. Men are physical beings. We do think when we have to; a Black woman operates on a totally different plane, where she's thinking, feeling and doing-all at the same time."
MOST ROMANTIC MOVE: "I recently made dinner on the side of a hill overlooking the city. I brought candles, some good tunes on the iPod and a couple of nice wines. When I'm into a woman, I'm not going to hide behind a movie or a fancy restaurant. It's about me and her."

Hello Mr. Garvin, I am writing for a request, I would like to know if you would invite my fiance on your show to show him some heart smart secrets, he was a heart patn when he was a baby, and now having cholesterol problems, so i would like to know if maybe you could show him some tips, he cooks when he's at work, on the ship, but i think it would be really inspirational for him to work alongside such a legend if just for an hour.
